Modified Gurney-flaps

One major result from analyzing the unsteady flow is that the increase of drag is closely coupled to the occurring lift fluctuations and also to the flow structures in the wake of Gurney-flaps. According to this observation a reduction of drag through damping of the flow instabilities could be a way to improve the lift to drag ratio. In this section the effect of modified Gurney-flaps is investigated.
